Exercise 1: Regular Verbs
Complete each sentence with the past simple form of the verb in brackets. Regular verbs end in -ed.
We (walk) to the lake yesterday afternoon.
She (work) at a bakery last summer.
I (study) English for two hours last night.
They (move) to Ottawa in 2023.
He (stop) the car at the red light.
My kids (play) in the snow all morning.
We (visit) my aunt on Saturday.
The interview (finish) at three o'clock.
Exercise 2: Irregular Verbs
Complete each sentence with the past simple form. These verbs are irregular — no -ed!
I (go) to the doctor on Monday.
She (buy) winter boots at the mall.
We (have) pizza for dinner last night.
He (get) a new job in January.
They (come) to Canada five years ago.
I (see) my old teacher at the grocery store.
She (take) the 7:15 train this morning.
My son (make) breakfast for everyone on Sunday.
Exercise 3: Negatives and Questions
Use didn't + base verb for negatives and Did + subject + base verb for questions.
I (not/sleep) well last night.

She (not/like) the movie at all.
they (arrive) on time?
We (not/go) out because of the storm.

Exercise 4: Find and Fix the Error
Each sentence has one past simple mistake. Write the correct sentence.

Select the correct past simple option.

Exercise 6: Your Story
Write about the past. Check every verb: is it regular (-ed) or irregular?
Write five sentences about last weekend. Use at least two irregular verbs.
Write three sentences about your first week in a new place (a new city, school, or job).
