| witness | A person who sees an event happen and can describe it, especially in court | ||
| defendant | The person in a court case who is accused of a crime or is being sued | ||
| sentence | The punishment given to a person found guilty of a crime by a court | ||
| jury | A group of ordinary people in a court who listen to the facts and decide whether the accused is guilty or not | ||
| prosecutor | A lawyer who presents the case against the accused person in court | ||
| appeal | A formal request to a higher court to change the decision of a lower court | ||
| convict | To officially declare someone guilty of a crime in a court of law | ||
| legislation | A law or a set of laws passed by a parliament or government | ||
| sue | To take legal action against a person or organisation, usually to claim money | ||
| bail | Money paid to a court to allow an accused person to be free until their trial | ||

| acquit | To officially decide in a court of law that someone is not guilty of a crime | ||
| testimony | A formal statement about what someone saw or knows, given in a court of law | ||
